What is Functional Oncology?

Integrative oncology is a patient-centered, evidence-informed field of comprehensive cancer care that uses lifestyle modifications, mind-body practices, and natural products from different traditions alongside conventional cancer treatments (Integrative oncology) seeks to engage patients and families as active participants in their own care from prevention throughout treatment and survivorship. How can an Integrative Nutritionist help?

Cancer Prevention

World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that up to 50% of cancer cases can be prevented though healthy lifestyle and environmental factors. We can work together to reduce cancer risk factors by working on nutrition, lifestyle and environmental factors.

Having cancer in your family doesn’t necessarily mean this is your destiny too. We have more control than we think!

Pre- surgery

Your treatment plan may include surgery. Pre-habilitation plays an important part in the success in your recovery. The benefits may include; increased quality of life, successful post-op recovery and reduced post-surgery complications. Working with Ginkgo Nutrition Clinic we would work to optimise your body’s condition for this stage of your treatment and beyond.

During active-treatment

During active treatment, there may be a number of potential side-effects like: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, sore mouth or hot flushes. By working with me, we would aim to reduce the side-effects and improve your quality of life.

Any interactions with your treatment are checked to ensure that the treatment efficacy is not affected.

Post-treatment & beyond

Active treatment may leave a number of long lasting symptoms like fatigue. We can work together on improving your overall well-being as well as equip you with tools and confidence that you have built as well as anti-cancer strategies to reduce the risk of recurrence.

The plan is supported by potential functional tests, which can give an insight into your specific and targeted needs.
